Chicago Football Classic trip to Soldier Field

The New Beginnings children were at historic Soldier Field (calm down Packer Nation) to take part in the 22nd Annual Chicago Football Classic (CFC). The Chicago Classic is a match up of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This year the CFC matched the Hampton University Pirates of Hampton Virginia against the Howard University Bison hailing from the nation’s capital. Hampton prevailed 41-20.

Each year the Classic Committee donates blocks of tickets to schools and youth ministries to make participation affordable. As a result, New Beginnings was able to take two of our vans to Chicago. Beyond a game, the children were able to see firsthand the legendary HBCU battle of the bands and to see a stadium full of African American graduates from two of the nation’s finest institutions of higher education. They also participated in a tailgate HBCU style provided by Jeff Speller and his brothers. More importantly, the trip, led by Jeff Speller was an opportunity for our children to get a glimpse of a potential future for themselves. With all the negative influences surrounding our children, we can have too many opportunities to witness the positive in our community.
