Our Story
It all started with a simple “♪♫♪ Happy Birthday to You....♪♫♪”
In the summer of 1996, a young men’s choir, His Music, from Northwestern University visited St. Charles place and planted the seed, unbeknownst to them, for what would eventually become New Beginnings are Possible. While performing for the children, the musical young men came to find out that it was one of the children’s Birthdays. They circled around the young boy and serenaded him with the Happy Birthday Song. Overwhelmed with joy, the young boy cried....and later divulged that no one had ever sung Happy Birthday to him before. The young boy’s confession was a providential instruction from God to the leaders present that the children of the community lacked not only in the basic necessities of food, shelter, clothing, but also in the basic necessities of love, attention, and kindness. These leaders saw the need to help the youth learn to think about the infinite possibilities of tomorrow, the radical potential of a new beginning. Imbued with this providence, six area pastors and formed New Beginnings are Possible. As a result of God’s grace, hard work, key partnerships, volunteers, donations, and a dedicated Board of Directors, New Beginnings has been able to evolve into what it is today – a two-fold ministry that centers on a Youth center and ongoing outreach to St. Charles Youth and Family Services. What began with a simple song has been transformed into a valuable and viable ministry whose sole aim is to help make possible the impossible, to help create new beginnings.

for their lives. Our youth will have a passion for learning, along with an understanding
that education and determination are necessary keys to success. Our youth will exhibit a
commitment to spiritual growth based on a rock-solid foundation of Christian values. Our youth
will act as leaders, mentors, and role models for others while making life affirming choices and
giving back to their community.
NBAP envisions a future where we have become a household name due to our impact in the
community. We will garner strong support from public officials and major employers to assist us
in opening additional youth centers in target neighborhoods. Our team of staff and volunteers
will be comprised of exceedingly high quality individuals of strong moral character. NBAP will
use a sustainable business model in order to generate the resources needed in order to reach as
many people as possible.
In short, we envision a future where we have helped create as many new beginnings as
possible. |
